JWT – Foundation Rwanda Flip Book
CHALLENGE – Foundation Rwanda was established to assist Rwandan children who were born to mothers of rape following 100 days of genocide and destruction in the war-torn country. Seeking to raise funds to provide these children with an education and a better life, Foundation Rwanda worked with JWT to create a 15-second television spot. When the project, fraught with adversity, raw emotion, and altruistic value, became a flip book, JWT’s Jeff Harter, Associate Creative Director, turned to Filewurx Studio. Complexity of the book’s images and a compressed turn time were the perfect match for Filewurx Studio’s Image Specialist Tom Janousek. Together, Jeff and Tom transformed an intimidating image representative of the violent past into a symbol of hope for the future.
FILEWURX WORKFLOW SOLUTION – Consulting with JWT’s creative team and photographer Brad Kaye, Tom’s retouching skills transformed an image of a bullet into a pencil that was later morphed by Jeff in Photoshop. Within two days, JPGs went to a local edit house to develop the video. The spot aired on CNN and the National Geographic Channel, as well as Hulu.com. To view the video, see below.
RESULTS – The Foundation Rwanda Flip Book won two awards – the Communication Arts 2010 Award of Excellence and a Silver Spike Addy. Proceeds of the campaign allowed Foundation Rwanda to more than triple the number of children receiving secondary education, along with books, uniforms, and other necessities.
